Husband and Wife team Matthew & Heidi Depante own and operate Spiked Bake Shop. They have taken an exciting approach to baking by marrying together alcohol with classic American sweets.
Matthew is a trained Chef who acquired his culinary degree at the French Culinary Institute in New York City. He apprenticed at the Iron Chef Morimoto's and went on to work in some of the best restaurants in the city including Gramercy Tavern. His wife Heidi, a Certified Pilates Instructor who has trained numerous celebrities was always assisting him in their kitchen and became known as his 'Sous Chef'.
One day while baking some cookies for a dinner party in their shoebox size Manhattan apartment, they had an idea and added some alcohol to the batter. It turned out to be amazingly delicious! After a few friends and family members sampled some of their treats they began to get flooded with requests for more and more. Over dinner one evening in their favorite Upper East Side café they decided this was what they wanted to do for a living. A few months later they moved back to where they both grew up in Fort Lauderdale to turn this dream into a reality.
Their bakeshop offers sophisticated gourmet baked goods including cupcakes, brownie bites and cake pops that have been recreated from classic alcohol combinations. They are spiked with premium spirits or can be served 'virgin' with no alcohol using only fruit, nut and plant extracts. They take pride in using only the finest natural ingredients, including sweet cream butter, Madagascar Bourbon vanilla, fresh squeezed juice and farm fresh eggs.
If you are concerned about the amount of alcohol don't worry, when booze is mixed into the batter and baked only about 50% remains. No recipe utilizes more than 4 tablespoons, which comes out to less than 1 teaspoon per regular size cupcake. We truly put our hearts into our sweets and hope you enjoy them as much as we do!
